Gryphon StandArt Amplifier Stand
The Gryphon StandArt Amplifier Stand is a dedicated single-shelf vibration control stand sized to match Gryphon's power amplifiers. Part of the broader StandArt furniture system, it applies the same constrained-layer-damped shelf technology that Gryphon developed for the Commander preamplifier's internal chassis construction, providing a purpose-built mechanical foundation for the Apex, Mephisto, Antileon EVO, and Essence power amplifiers. Designed and built in Denmark, it is the recommended amplifier support platform within the Gryphon system.
The Case for a Dedicated Amp Stand
Gryphon's position is that every link of the playback chain matters, including the surface on which the electronics rest. Power amplifiers generate significant internal vibration through transformer operation and mechanical movement. At the same time, room-borne energy from the loudspeakers travels back through the floor and into the chassis. Gryphon designed the StandArt Amplifier Stand to address both: evacuating internally generated vibration while isolating the amplifier from the energy entering through the support surface.
The StandArt Shelf
The shelf at the core of each StandArt Amplifier Stand is a constrained-layer-damped sandwich of three materials: a top plate of Kerrock, a middle layer of highly viscous bitumen, and a bottom layer of Ultra-High-Density Fiberboard. Kerrock is a non-porous, homogeneous material composed of one-third acrylic resin (polymethyl methacrylate) and two-thirds natural minerals. The bitumen layer between the plates is the key damping element: because of its high molecular density, Gryphon states it has energy-absorbing properties equivalent to an MDF layer three times its thickness. The sandwich construction dissipates vibration by absorbing kinetic energy and converting it into low-grade frictional heat, a principle Gryphon first applied to the internal chassis base of the Commander preamplifier and Siren phono stage.
Column and Footer Design
The StandArt Amplifier Stand uses short-leg aluminum columns machined from heavy, non-magnetic aluminum and filled with a custom blend of oven-dried sand particles. The sand fill increases mass and raises the resonant frequency of the column beyond the audio band, contributing to the overall low noise floor that the StandArt system is designed to achieve. Each column terminates in a dual-layer Gryphon Black Spike ST footer for mechanical grounding, channeling residual vibrational energy away from the stand and into the floor.
Compatibility and System Integration
The StandArt Amplifier Stand is available custom-sized to match the Gryphon Apex, Mephisto, Antileon EVO, and Essence power amplifiers. Each version is dimensioned specifically to the footprint of its intended amplifier. The amp stand is fully compatible with the full StandArt modular rack system, allowing it to be positioned alongside a StandArt component rack as a cohesive visual and functional unit. The StandArt system as a whole received the HiFi+ 2021 Equipment Stand of the Year award.
