Fono Acustica Armonico

The Fono Acustica Armonico is the mid-tier cable series from Spanish cable manufacturer Fono Acustica, positioned between the entry-level Legato and the flagship Virtuoso. Each cable in the series is hand-built from thermo-treated precious-metal conductors in proprietary ratios, insulated with Teflon and air dielectrics, and fitted with an African hardwood resonance block. With 20 hours of assembly time per cable, the Armonico reflects the same artisan approach that defines the Fono Acustica brand across all tiers. Made in Spain.

Conductors and Insulation

The Armonico uses thermo-treated precious-metal conductors blended in ratios determined by designer Félix Ávalos through an 18-month research and development process that evaluated oxygen-free copper, silver, gold, and palladium in multiple configurations. The final blend and ratios are proprietary. All conductors are insulated with Teflon and air dielectrics using large isolating tubing, a geometry chosen for its dielectric properties and for mechanical resonance control. For interconnect and digital cables, the conductors are wound in a twist geometry that must be formed by hand.

African Hardwood Resonance Control

Each Armonico cable carries an external anti-resonant African hardwood block, sized and positioned specifically for each cable type to address its particular resonant signature. Fono Acustica states that the hardwood was selected from several materials evaluated for this purpose and provides the most effective structural and airborne vibration control of the alternatives tested. The block is fitted with the Fono Acustica logo and is integral to the visual identity of the Armonico series, distinguishing it clearly from the Legato's nylon jacket and the Virtuoso's woven black cotton outer.

Speaker Cables

For the Armonico speaker cable, Félix Ávalos determined that separating the opposite-phase conductors into discrete, individually resonance-controlled jackets produced superior results to shared geometries or networked terminations. The Armonico speaker cable therefore consists of separate cable runs for each signal phase, each with its own hardwood resonance block. Termination uses custom-made Supreme spade and banana connectors plated in 24K gold.

Digital Cables

The Armonico digital cables use the same Teflon and air dielectric construction and hardwood resonance block as the interconnects, adding a unique end-shielding design to block RFI and clock signals. Fono Acustica states the primary goal for digital cables is to minimize jitter addition, describing the objective as "first, do no harm." The series includes digital cables in RCA (75-ohm), XLR (110-ohm), BNC (75-ohm), and USB configurations.

Connectors and Solder

Terminations are hand-soldered using an alloy approaching 100% pure silver content, a process Fono Acustica states requires special techniques due to the purity of the material. Select applications use Oyaide connectors; the interconnect termination barrels are a custom design in burnished copper, confirmed in a review by Marshall Nack in Positive Feedback. All cables are burned in at the Fono Acustica factory using specialized equipment before shipping, requiring only minimal settling time in the system before reaching full performance. Each cable ships in a hardwood box with original artwork by a noted Spanish painter.
