Description

The Gryphon Rosso is Gryphon's accessible cable series, sharing the same G7 Silver-Gold solid-core conductors, PTFE insulation, braided silver-copper shield, and Oyaide and Neutrik connectors as the flagship Vanta. Distinguished by its signature Gryphon Red polyurethane jacket, Rosso is designed for smaller systems and source components, and is available as power cords, speaker cables, XLR and RCA interconnects, and phono cables. The Gryphon Rosso is designed and built in Denmark.

Gryphon Rosso Cables

The Gryphon Rosso is a complete cable series developed to bring the core performance of the flagship Vanta cables to a broader range of Gryphon systems. Sharing the same proprietary G7 Silver-Gold alloy conductors, PTFE insulation geometry, braided silver-copper shield, and in-house termination quality as the Vanta, Rosso is distinguished by its signature Gryphon Red polyurethane jacket and is calibrated for smaller systems and source-level components. The series covers power cords, speaker cables, XLR interconnects, RCA interconnects, and phono cables in both XLR and RCA-to-SME configurations. Designed and built in Denmark, Rosso makes the all-Gryphon playback chain accessible to a wider audience.

The Relationship to Vanta

Gryphon is direct about the Rosso's origins and intent. After completing the Vanta series, Gryphon set out to distill most of Vanta's performance into a more compact, flexible, and cost-effective series. The result, as Gryphon states, is a cable that approaches Vanta's performance while being designed specifically to partner with Gryphon's more accessible integrated amplifiers, preamplifiers, and source components.

Rosso shares its design, materials, and construction details with Vanta. The principal differences are the number and gauge of conductors per cable type, and the distinctive Gryphon Red jacket that sets Rosso apart visually from Vanta's jet black. Rosso does not include digital cable types; those remain exclusive to the Vanta series.

The G7 Silver-Gold Alloy

Every conductor in the Rosso series is made from the same G7 alloy used in the Vanta series and in the internal wiring of every Gryphon component. Gryphon describes the G7 as a mix of hyper-pure silver alloyed with nearly 10% pure gold. Silver offers the lowest electrical resistance of any metal, but in its pure form it is brittle and develops micro-fractures in its surface that can impede signal flow over time. The addition of a large quantity of pure gold addresses this: gold is among the most ductile elements, and its combination with silver produces a material with maximum conductivity and ideal long-term flexibility. Gryphon also states that this alloy improves electrically over time, providing better measured and sonic performance the longer it is in use.

The crystalline purity of the G7 alloy results in fewer crystal boundaries than conventional conductors, eliminating the amplitude-dependent signal distortion that crystal impurities can introduce. All conductors in Rosso, as in Vanta, are solid-core rather than stranded, eliminating strand-to-strand micro-distortions and ensuring consistent geometry in use.

Construction

Rosso cables use the same construction approach as the Vanta: solid-core G7 conductors arranged helically using PTFE (Teflon) tubes to maintain precise geometry regardless of bend radius or vibration. A braided screen of silver-plated copper wires surrounds the conductor assembly for noise and interference rejection, and a glossy Gryphon Red polyurethane jacket provides mechanical stability and flexibility. The polyurethane material also contributes vibration absorption. Gryphon's documentation confirms that while Rosso shares materials and methods with Vanta, the precise specification of conductor gauges, insulation thicknesses, and other design parameters are unique to Rosso, making it a purpose-tuned design rather than simply a scaled-down Vanta.

The Phono Cable

The Rosso Phono Cable is a particular point of pride in the series. Gryphon's documentation describes it as the result of both scientific testing and critical listening, with the conductor tuned to a specification 0.2mm thinner than the comparable Vanta phono conductor. This thinner conductor simultaneously produced a sonic improvement and reduced resistance by 70%, a critical factor in preserving the extremely delicate signal from a moving coil or moving magnet cartridge. The Rosso Phono Cable is available in both XLR-to-SME and RCA-to-SME configurations, with the SME 5-pin tonearm end available in straight or angled orientations.

Connectors and Termination

Rosso uses the same connector brands as Vanta: Oyaide for AC power and Neutrik for signal connections. All connectors are fitted with custom anodized aluminum housings designed to Gryphon's proprietary specifications, silver-soldered in-house under a high-power microscope. The RCA interconnects and RCA phono cables use Neutrik's Chuck-Type Strain Relief design, which makes ground contact before signal and breaks signal before ground on connection and disconnection, protecting components from switching transients. Power cables use Oyaide C-079 IEC and Oyaide P-079/P-079e AC connectors, with contacts plated in 24K gold and palladium.

Power Cable Application Note

Gryphon's own documentation specifies that the Rosso Power Cable is well suited for integrated amplifiers and source-level components including preamplifiers, CD players and DACs, phono stages, streamers, and turntables. For large power amplifiers that use the IEC C-19 power inlet, such as the Antileon EVO, Mephisto, and Apex, Gryphon recommends the Vanta Power Cable instead. This recommendation is stated in Gryphon's own technical specifications for the Rosso, and reflects the different current demands of amplifier-level components versus source components.

The Rosso Series

The Rosso series covers six cable types: power cord, XLR interconnect, RCA interconnect, XLR-to-SME phono cable, RCA-to-SME phono cable, and speaker cable. Speaker cables are available terminated with spade-to-spade, banana-to-banana, or mixed spade-to-banana configurations, with Gryphon's custom solid copper connectors double-plated in silver and gold. Digital cable types are not included in the Rosso series; customers requiring digital connections should refer to the Gryphon Vanta series.

With their Gryphon Red jackets, Breakout Boxes on speaker cable terminations, and bespoke connector housings, the Rosso cables bring the visual and sonic signature of the Gryphon cable program to systems built around the Diablo 333 and Essence integrated amplifiers and the full range of Gryphon source and preamplifier components.
